"But he who sins against me injures himself; All those who hate me love death." Pr. 8:36, NASB
So saith wisdom.
The wise choice is usually obvious and simple; the reason we choose folly is not because we are ignorant or unintelligent, it is because we are insane. Nobody purposes to injure themselves, or to love death. Yet we often reject wisdom. We choose what looks easiest, quickest, or most satisfying. We choose ice cream over broccoli, over and over again.
I think the root is unbelief - we refuse to believe that the wisest choice, although not as gratifying at first, is what we really want.
Today, when faced with the choice between wisdom, and what we feel like, let's try to remember that what we really want is anything but injury and death; we want true life. That is worth making the harder choice, every time.
