"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Pr. 9:10, NASB.
This is one of the "biggies." Wisdom can be defined as living well, or knowledge applied, or prudence in action. One of my favorite definitions is: Knowing how the universe works, and conforming to it. The most basic fact to conform to is this: the universe was created by God, and he makes the rules.
Wisdom starts with acknowledging God's power, presence, and authority. He has every right to demand anything he pleases, and one day he promises to bring justice - so prudence starts with learning who this God is and what he expects of us. The good news is, everything he expects is the best thing for us - he designed us, after all.
Today, let's remember that God is real. He is the Living God. Let's keep that in mind, and filter all our decisions through that truth.
The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the LORD.
