"There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death." HCSB
This is a scary prospect - That I could be walking on what I believe is the right road, only to find, in the end, that it leads to death. This possibility should be obvious and sobering to every person alive. You could be wasting your life, or worse, storing up wrath for yourself and marching toward eternal death.
Instead of driving us to fear, however, this insight should inspire us to seek out revelation - a word from the creator; directions. This insight must make us teachable, humble, submissive, and wise. A path may seem right to you, but that is no assurance. The only assurance we can really have is when we trust God's character, and therefore trust his directions.
This kind of dichotomy presents itself many times throughout the day. We have to choose between diligence and laziness, between shouting at our children and patience, between selfishness and self-denial, between thinking anxious thoughts or thinking on what is true, between lust and contentment.
Today, when you are deciding between what God says is best, and what seems right to you, remember that at the end of one of those roads waits only death. At the end of the other: Eternal Life.
